Plastic Piping

Joining PVC Plastic Piping With Other Types Of Pipes

You don’t have to replace all your existing piping when you decide to upgrade your fluid delivery systems to PVC plastic piping. One of the greatest benefits of using PVC plastic piping is that it can easily be attached to other types of materials that are used in the manufacture of pipes. Although PVC and CPVC plastic pipingare similar in some respects, there are many factors that make them unsuitable for joining with glue or other types of adhesives. The preferred method for joining these two types of plastic piping is to glue the appropriate adaptor to each pipe and then thread these together although a clamp or rubber connector can also be used.

The process of connecting plastic piping to metal piping is slightly more difficult. You will need a specialised adaptor that will fit the specifications of each pipe which can be very difficult to acquire. Alternatively you can use a much simpler technique by using a mission coupling adaptor. A mission coupling adaptor is a simple rubber connector that can be placed over the edge of each pipe. However, in using this method you will need to ensure that each pipe is relatively the same size for this process to work.

PVC plastic piping can also be attached to copper, galvanised and brass pipes using this method. This is normally necessary in older homes where these types of pipes have been used for the plumbing and the owner cannot afford the cost of replacing their entire plumbing system. It is important to remember that PVC and other types of plastic piping are far more hygienic, durable and abrasion resistant than metal pipes and it is a good idea to replace metal piping with plastic piping as soon as possible.
